Circumstances of Death
This is why boys shouldn’t tinker with things! As the Report on Accidental Injuries reported: “This NCO had, in fact, practically blown himself to bits”.
He was in charge of the Cooks of his Unit at le Quesnel. On the
night of August 19th, 1918 he was last seen alive sitting in the cookhouse with a shell nose between his thighs, taking it to pieces and examining the mechanism of it. ABout 7pm a loud report was heard and upon investigating Corporal McMaster was found dead in the chair, he having been killed and his body badly shattered by the shell nose being accidentally exploded.
