Circumstances of Death
Whilst proceeding down the front line trench near Loos, at 3.00 o’clock on the morning of August 4th 1917, he approached a double sentry one of whom challenged him but he did not reply. He continued towards the sentry, who again challenged him and upon not receiving any reply to the second challenge, the sentry fired his rifle hitting Private Gall in the chest and fatally wounding him. He succumbed shortly afterwards.
